Call for Actors for York Shakespeare Project's 2012 production of
The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Packed full of larger-than-life characters, Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor
is the perfect play for summer, combining the spirit of celebration and carnival with a
strong sense of family and community. As with all Shakespeare's comedies, under the
bright exterior there is a darker heart ... as we are asked to consider whether we can
ever really trust outside appearances.
We are looking for actors of all ages who can bring characters such as the
rambunctious Falstaff and his crew, not to mention the scheming 'Merry Wives' to
life. We're particularly keen to get new people involved, so if you've never acted
before and think it sounds like fun, please come and give it a go!
Please prepare a short monologue from the play (ten to fifteen lines), one that you feel
best shows off your abilities. You will also be asked to prepare and perform a short
scene with another actor, provided on the day.
Performances: 25th-27th May, and 30th May-5th June, including matinee
performances on the 26th and 27th May, and 2nd and 3rd June - all at Rowntree Park,
York, plus a one-off performance on Sunday 10th June at the Dell, Stratford on Avon.
Auditions will be held 7-10pm on Wednesday 15th February 2012 and 11am-4pm on
Saturday 18th February 2012 at Southlands Methodist Church (corner of Southlands
Road and Bishopthorpe Road YO23 1NX )
To book a slot, please e-mail Strasz at tom.straszewski@gmail.com or call 07761 540
831.
If you want to be involved but can't make these dates do still get in touch.
Rehearsals will begin in the week of February 20th.
